The Harbor

The city of Dana Point is named after Richard Henry Dana, an eighteenth century Boston sailor who traveled and traded here and wrote the book Two Years Before the Mast. Considered a historical hero, a large statue of Dana resides at the entrance to the harbor.

Year around, you can bike, walk, skate, jet ski, fish, jog, whale watch or just relax and dine in local restaurants. Feature festivals include the annual Jazz Festival (early summer), and Doheny Days music festivals (late summer), the Whale festival (early spring), and the Tall Ships Festival (fall).

The Lantern Village

This beautiful community lies closest to downtown Dana Point and the Harbor. On the bluff and with in the gentle hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean you will find old world meets new world. In Lantern Village, older homes from the early development of Dana Point (circa 1920s) are nestled in with a variety of newer construction.

Many of the streets in the Lantern district are named after different colored lanterns. In the 18th century, natives used different colored lanterns to guide early traders into the harbor to find specific goods. For example, a green lantern, meant hides and leather good were available. Or, a silver lantern indicated that precious metals were available.

In the Lantern district you will find a great year round selection of single-family homes, town homes and condos in addition to award winning restaurants and abundant shopping. Del Obispo

The Del Obispo communities are predominately single-family homes directly east and west of Del Obispo Street in Dana Point. About 15 distinctive home tracts run from the southern tip of San Juan Capistrano to Doheny State beach situated at the entrance to Dana Point Harbor.

Directly north of downtown Dana Point Harbor is the community of Dana Hills. Capistrano Beach

Just east of downtown Dana Point you will find the funky small coastal community of Capistrano Beach. Referred to as 'Capo Beach' by the locals, many of the homes were built in the 1950s, '60 and '70s.
